Marcalliance: the global alliance supporting our cross-border legal work

Having just returned from Marcalliance’s Annual General Meeting in Düsseldorf, where we welcomed three member firms in seven new countries, I’ve been reflecting on the significant benefits to Brachers being part of this group of trusted international lawyers.
The Marcalliance network is an international alliance of 30 independent law firms, whose members are based in 29 countries across Europe, North and South America, East Asia and Oceania. Currently, Brachers is the only UK law firm member, which gives us a unique advantage in effectively and efficiently meeting the needs of our clients.
Founded in 2013, the alliance now gathers more than 1850 lawyers. Together, we have extensive experience in carrying out complex cross-border operations for businesses and individuals.
Our decision to join the Marcalliance in 2019 was driven by our focus on enhancing client experience. We identified the value of the network in eliminating unnecessary barriers to cross-border legal advice and also in the reassurance it gives to our clients by providing access to a group of trusted advisors who work to the same high standards as us and with whom we already had a strong working relationship.
It was the right decision. In this age of globalism and connectivity, where all businesses are grappling with the challenges and opportunities posed by AI and similar technologies, it is comforting not to be feeling our way through these issues in isolation. Instead, Brachers is part of a collaborative worldwide legal network, sharing new solutions and the latest thinking – raising standards across the board.
At the Marcalliance AGM, I attended a conference on Rethinking Organizational Structures of Law firms in the Age of IA and Digital Transformation by Iga Kurowska looking at the impact of AI on legal services and the benefits this offers to our clients, particularly cross-jurisdictions. But what I liked most was the quote from Joanna Maciejewska: “I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.” Won’t it be lovely when AI can do this!
As well as acting as a collaborative network, Brachers’ membership of Marcalliance supports our work on a practical, day-to-day level. As lawyers who regularly undertake client work with an international dimension, we can call upon a strong global network of professional advisors to share their local jurisdictional knowledge and expertise, working as an effective team.
Whether we are supporting the cross-border sale of a company or advising on cross European employment law, we can utilise our connections in the network to help us to deliver the best for our clients.
