  • Legal 500 has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world for 33 years. Its directory highlights the practice area teams that provide the most cutting edge and innovative advice to corporate counsel.

Research carried out by Legal 500 is based on feedback from 300,000 clients worldwide, submissions from law firms, interviews with leading private practice lawyers, and a team of researchers. More than four million users visit the Legal 500 website each year and this guide offers those buying legal services in the UK, reliable and up-to-date information on law firms.

The 2021 directory shows that all Brachers’ practice areas maintained their rankings besides construction. Of these, five of the firm’s practice areas are ranked Tier 1, including: commercial property, personal injury and clinical negligence, debt recovery, and public sector (a new area incorporating education, health and local government).

Partners Sarah Gaines, Scott Alexander, Allis Beasley, Graham Wallis and John Sheath all maintained their title of ‘leading lawyers’. John Sheath also upheld his position in the hall of fame. Claire Williams was named a leading lawyer for the first time as a Brachers Partner. Partner Alexandra Gordon maintained her title as a ‘next generation partner’, and Harriet Humphrey was again named a ‘rising star’.

Other lawyers recommended in the directory include: Jennifer Alderman, Emma Anderson, Andrew Bate, James Bullock, Bill Butler, Deborah Cain, Jodene Conway, Alex Cosgrove, Catherine Daw, Christopher Eriksson-Lee, Antonio Fletcher, Ash Jilani, Erol Huseyin, Mark Leeson, Lee May, Mei-Ling McNab, James Millis, Michael Oatham, Matthew Simmonds, Justine Sloover, Colin Smith, Robert Thompson, and Sarah Webster.

In all, 31 lawyers from Brachers were mentioned in the directory, which is up six from 25 last year.

Joanna Worby, Managing Partner, said: “We are delighted that during the firm’s 125th anniversary year, a record number of our lawyers and practice areas have again been recognised for their expertise. Brachers commitment to delivering the highest quality of service and care to our clients is our priority, and this is exemplified by recognition from bodies such as Legal 500, coupled with the positive feedback we receive from our clients and industry partners.”
