• Brachers has been shortlisted in the ‘Dementia Friendly Organisation’ category at the forthcoming Dementia Friendly Kent Awards 2024. The award category has been created to recognise a business that has raised awareness of dementia through internal teams and external contacts.

The Brachers Private Client team has extensive experience of working with vulnerable clients, including those affected by dementia. This not only helps us to understand the challenges they face and how we can best support them, but it drives our staff to do more – both personally and professionally – to help those affected.

Private Client Partner, Mary Rimmer who heads up the department’s Elderly and Vulnerable team is a Dementia Friends Ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Dementia Friends’ programme and continues to inform others – creating over 1,600 Dementia Friends to date including many of Brachers staff.

Mary said: “The Private Client team is proud to be acknowledged for the dedication we show to supporting those affected by dementia. Our specialist team consistently strives to provide clear, jargon-free advice, who advise and look after the interests of elderly and vulnerable adults. This recognition also offers a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on the charities that support the elderly and vulnerable in our community, such as the Alzheimer’s Society and many others.”

Mary Rimmer and Deborah Sherry, are joint secretaries of Building a Dementia Friendly Maidstone (BDFM) – an action group that seeks to raise awareness and enhance accessibility for people with dementia.

Brachers legal advisors also belong to several professional bodies dedicated to supporting those with vulnerabilities including The Association of Lifetime Lawyers, the STEP Mental Capacity Special Interest Group and The Court of Protection Practitioners’ Group. The team’s expertise is recognised through regular referrals from Mencap, The Association of Lifetime Lawyers, Age UK and numerous professional advisors.

The awards ceremony will be held on 21 October at the Kent Dementia Showcase event which is being held at Valley Park School, Maidstone at 2pm.

This year’s awards will be presented by Roger Gough, Leader of Kent County Council.
